Edward A Gerney “Eddie” 9/4/1955 - 5/24/2025 It is with great sorrow that we share our beloved husband, father, brother in Christ and friend, Edward A Gerney, 69, of Corning, California, passed away on 5/24/2025 in his home surrounded by family. Eddie was born in Los Angeles California to Velda (nee Wooten) and Bernie Gerney but had lived continuously in Corning California since he was of school age. Despite his dedication, athleticism and natural skill in the sport, he elected not to pursue playing baseball professionally after graduating from Corning High School in 1973. He would instead become a lifelong entrepreneur, craftsman, and family man. Personally, and professionally, Eddie was artistic, creative, a perfectionist, a born project manager and a people person. He pursued excellence in whatever he set his mind and hands to do, was never afraid of getting his hands dirty, and wouldn’t complete a project until it met his vision and high standards. Despite his humble beginnings and admittedly mediocre academics, he excelled at livestock slaughtering and meat processing, working for his stepfather at Hubbard Meats in Orland and then became a highly respected butcher at Holiday Market for many years. He created both functional and decorative masonry work which is still evident around his home and other properties around Tehama County. He later became a licensed contractor operating Gerney Landscape and Maintenance company for over 30 years and over the years turned the old house on the corner of East and Fig into the “Gerney Mansion.” His final occupation was self-appointed office manager and greeter at Rita's Tax Service where he entertained clients, shared stories and laughs, and will be sorely missed. Eddie was married to and remained very much in love with the “apple of his eye,” Rita Gerney for 37 years, his “crown jewel” was son Chad (Megan) Gerney, (46), and his daughters Jessica (David) Orris (49), Jennifer (David) DePriest, (48), Kristina (Robert) Thomas (45), and Tiffany Pierce (44) and was a proud grandfather of 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Eddie had three main passions in life; winning souls for Jesus Christ, his family and friends, and his music. He shared with many his simple testimony of praying the sinner’s prayer, being led to Jesus by his Uncle Wayne as a young man, from then on unable to resist the calling of God on his life. He lived and shared his faith with his family, and he and Rita went on to lead many others to the Lord. A firm believer in the power of prayer, they prayed for countless individuals who experienced God’s presence and healing. Eddie was an exceptional musician, used his talents in service to the Lord, and held regular praise and worship in his home. He played lead and rhythm guitar, keyboard, and harmonica, and composed hundreds of songs over the years. He had a song for every occasion and special ones for friends and family members. Eddie and Frank DiSalvo’s song “We’re Gonna Make America Great Again,” was performed twice at Mar-a-Lago for President Trump by Frank DiSalvo. Eddie enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, and all things outdoors. His family and friends have many fond memories of many fishing and camping trips over the years in McCloud and across northern California and Oregon. Having the gift of gab, he made friends easily, made others feel welcome and valued, he loved sharing stories and learning about the lives of others, caring, and giving; he would share whatever he had with whomever needed it. Though he could be very hardheaded and stubborn, overall, he was a loving husband, a great father, and a loyal friend. He took his role in his children’s life seriously, shared his love, skill, knowledge, and regularly told his children he loved them and was proud of them. Eddie is pre-deceased by his mother Velda Hubbard, 88, of Corning California and his father Bernard “Bernie” Gerney, 94, of Cottonwood California. He is survived by his brother, Terry Gerney, 72, of Willows, California. Eddie will be buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Red Bluff close to his beloved mother. A Celebration of Life potluck luncheon will be hosted by Lugar de Misericordia church at 1520 East Street, Corning, California (next door to the Gerney Mansion) for Eddie on June 14 at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lugar de Misericordia, in gratitude for their service to the community, promoting the gospel of Christ, and their love and kindness to the Gerney family.
