Faye was born in Kalispell, Montana to James (Jay) and Alice Walter on September 17, 1925. She grew up primarily in Kalispell and surrounding areas. Her father was a timber faller and, because jobs were scarce during the depression, Faye and her family often moved to wherever work could be found. She graduated from Flathead County High School in 1942 at the age of 16. During WWII, she moved with her family to Seattle, WA, and worked in a defense plant office. Later, while visiting her sister, Bonnie, who was stationed in Long Beach while in the Waves (the women's branch of the Navy), she met her husband Lawrence (Larry) Gilmore. They were married on March 12, 1946, and later moved to San Francisco where their first daughter, Sharon (Sher) was born in 1947. While in San Francisco, she had various office jobs, one being in the payroll department in one of the companies on Fisherman's Wharf. In 1950 they moved to Menlo Park where their second daughter, Sandra (Sandy) was born in 1954. In 1955, Larry got a job with the US Forest Service and the family moved to Long Barn, and later to Tuolumne where he worked as a deputy constable. During this time, Faye worked as a homemaker, cooking, baking, and sewing for her family. In 1961, they came to Corning where Larry went to work for the Corning Police Department and Faye worked for 12 years as the Corning Justice Court Clerk and for the Attorneys, Stromsness and Hultgren. In 1976, they left their jobs in Corning and moved to Gridley, and opened and operated a Wards Catalog Agency for 9 years. In 1994, they returned to Corning and resided at Woodson Bridge Estates. Larry passed away in 2001 and Faye remained there until she moved to assisted living in 2017 She attended church and Ladies Bible Study at First Baptist Church in Corning.
