Faye Olive Glimore

September 17, 1925 - February 27, 2022

Faye Olive Gilmore passed away on February 27th, 2022, at WestHaven Assisted Living in Orland, California at the age of 96. Faye was born in Kalispell, Montana to James (Jay) and Alice Walter on September 17, 1925. She grew up primarily in Kalispell and surrounding areas. Her father was a timber faller and, because jobs were scarce during the depression, Faye and her family often moved to wherever work could be found. Nearby lakes provided activities such as swimming in the summer and ice skating in the winter. Faye spoke of riding 5 miles in a logging truck to school. She graduated from Flathead County High School in 1942 at the age of 16. During WWII, she moved with her family to Seattle, WA, and worked in a defense plant office. Later, while visiting her sister, Bonnie, who was stationed in Long Beach while in the Waves (the women's branch of the Navy), she met her husband Lawrence (Larry) Gilmore. Larry had recently been discharged from the army after spending almost a year in hospitals after being wounded in WWII. They were married on March 12, 1946, and later moved to San Francisco where their first daughter, Sharon (Sher) was born in 1947. While in San Francisco, she had various office jobs, one being in the payroll department in one of the companies on Fisherman's Wharf. In 1950 they moved to Menlo Park where their second daughter, Sandra (Sandy) was born in 1954. In 1955, Larry got a job with the US Forest Service and the family moved to Long Barn, and later to Tuolumne where he worked as a deputy constable. During this time, Faye worked as a homemaker, cooking, baking, and sewing for her family. In 1961, they came to Corning where Larry went to work for the Corning Police Department and Faye worked for 12 years as the Corning Justice Court Clerk and for the Attorneys, Stromsness and Hultgren. In 1976, they left their jobs in Corning and moved to Gridley, and opened and operated a Wards Catalog Agency for 9 years. In 1994, they returned to Corning and resided at Woodson Bridge Estates. Larry passed away in 2001 and Faye remained there until she moved to assisted living in 2017 She attended church and Ladies Bible Study at First Baptist Church in Corning. She loved spending time with family and family holiday gatherings, boating, fishing in lakes and the ocean, gardening and enjoying the flowers in her backyard. She is survived by her sister, Jean Patton of Eugene, OR; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Alan Honore; son-in-law, Earl Wintle; grandchildren, Jaye Lyn Curtis of Red Bluff, CA; Amber Van Tuyl (Mike) of San Jose, CA; Tim Wintle (Danelle) of Kennewick, WA, Caro Martushev (Tim) of Vernal, UT; Neil Wintle of Gilbert, AZ, Nicolette Nelson (Doug) of Chico, CA; and Kelsey Yates (Danny) of Oregon City, OR; and 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Larry Gilmore, sister Bonnie Ulrich and daughter, Sher Wintle. There will be a memorial service at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 19th at First Baptist Church, 506 Colusa Street in Corning. Please join us for lunch afterward while we remember and celebrate the life of Faye.
