Our beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend Kathryn Louise Nellist Pectol returned to her Heavenly home on Thursday December 17, 2020 . Kathy was born on Jan 6, 1947 in Eureka, California to Janet Elizabeth Hannah and Joseph Jay Nellist as the oldest of three children. ”Kaki”, as she was called, spent her early years in Humboldt County surrounded by her siblings and her many cousins whom she cherished. She loved to ride and care for her horses. She attended Blue Lake Elementary School and met her future husband Brent in the 4th grade. The Nellist family later moved to Eureka where she graduated from Eureka High School. Kathy went on to earn her teaching degree from Humboldt State University. She spent a wonderful year in Spain where she studied at the University of Granada and had the opportunity to travel to many countries where she learned to love people and their cultures. She began her teaching career at Freshwater Elementary. Kathy took a break from teaching to raise her four children, but in the later years she returned to the classroom to teach Spanish at Foothill and Enterprise High School. She loved her students. At an 8th grade class reunion, Kathy was reunited with Brent. They were married on June 20, 1971 and have shared a wonderful 49 years together. In 1981, that life brought them to Redding where they raised their four children together. Family was everything to them. There isn't anything they would not do for their family. Kathy was ever present in her children’s lives and spent countless hours on bleachers and theater seats supporting them in everything they ever wanted to do. However, Kathy was not one to sit still and was actively involved in all the booster programs. In particular, Kathy sewed costumes for the Shasta High Music Department for many, many years. Kathy was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in many callings and capacities as a demonstration of her love for her Savior Jesus Christ. Her favorite place to be was teaching and singing with the children in the Primary. Kathy was a woman of many talents and there isn’t anything that she could not make. Baking pies, homemade breads, quilts, sewing, and her handmade cards are just some of the talents she will be remembered by. Kathy was a creative and a gifted teacher. Most recently, she enjoyed teaching card making to the residents at Oakmont of Redding. Her love of card making allowed her to travel and spend precious time with her daughters. She used those talents to benefit and enrich many lives. Brent and Kathy loved spending priceless time with their family at Trinity Lake, their favorite place in the world. Kathy is survived by her husband, Brent, her sister, Margaret Nellist Crooks, her beloved children, and treasured grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Project Healing Water. https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/projecthealingwatersflyfishing Kathy encouraged Brent to get involved and it has blessed their lives. Please select Redding as the “special event/program” then dedicate your donation to her in the specified box.
